Demonstration of support through breath management, use of resonance and corresponding space to create uniform tone quality, and demonstration of successful implementation of other techniques associated with trained singing

Intonation – 10 points

Choir is in tune when singing in unison and in harmony

Balance & Clarity – 10 points

Relative volume of voice parts and individuals is well proportioned, unobtrusive, and proper balance is achieved

Blend – 10 points

Unification of vowels and tone quality are achieved with placement and conformity

Dynamics – 10 points

Dynamic contrast is stylistically appropriate and used with good control of the voice

Diction – 10 points

Lyrics are understood; consonants and vowels are appropriate to style

Rhythm & Precision – 10 points

Choir demonstrates rhythmic accuracy, tempo integrity, and uniform attacks/releases

Musicality & Interpretation – 10 points

Elements of phrasing, sensitivity, and nuance are executed and appropriately derived from the structure of the music

Stylistic Authenticity – 10 points

Ensemble executes proper style according to song genre through the use of appropriate tone quality, phrasing, and any needed devices, such as style specific articulation, etc.

Consistency – 10 points

Unification and conformity of good vocal technique is maintained throughout performance

Difficulty – 10 points

Level of skill and work needed to successfully perform music

Accompaniment – 10 points

Accompaniment facilitates and enhances all aspects of choral ensemble’s performance

Staging – 10 points

Ensemble effectively uses spacing and layering that compliments visual effect 

Stylistic Authenticity & Choreographic Content – 10 points

Ensemble uses distinctive stylistic movement appropriate for genre while maintaining awareness of physical taxation on performer’s vocal performance 

Appearance – 10 points

Ensemble’s costuming and grooming are assembled well and enhance presentation

Transitions & Pacing – 10 points

Performance flow is uninterrupted while also producing a sense of direction and structural pacing of show

Precision & Execution – 10 points

Choreography and staging are presented with energy and commitment, and are rhythmically synchronized

Poise – 10 points

Ensemble demonstrates professionalism and confidence visually

Communication & Expression – 10 points

Emotion, characterization, and intent are clear, true, and believable

Entertainment Value – 10 points

Choreography, sets, props, costuming, accompaniment, and special effects combine to enhance performance

Consistency – 10 points

Unification and conformity of quality dance technique and execution is maintained throughout performance

Difficulty – 10 points

Level of skill and work needed to successfully perform show

Weighting

By Raw Scores, the captions Music and Show are weighted 55/45 with a grand total of 220 points.

Split Sheet and Ranks

When the judges are split by caption and scores are converted to ranks, the weighting depends the number of judges per caption. To achieve a 60/40 Music/Show split, the panel must have at a minimum 3 Music judges and 2 Show judges.
