Tone is uniform, consistent, and well-controlled throughout volumes and ranges. Singers exhibit tone color that is appropriate to the style.

The ensemble performs in tune in all dynamics and ranges throughout the performance. There may be rare lapses in intonation.

Vocal Blend & Balance – 10 points

The ensemble achieves a pyramid balance in dynamics and ranges throughout the performance. A particular section rarely overpowers another section. No individual voices oversing the ensemble.

Diction – 10 points

Diction is clear, stylistically appropriate, and consistent​.

Dynamic Sensitivity – 10 points

Ensemble exhibits appropriate musical sensitivity through the use of full dynamic range throughout the show, that stylistically aligns with the music.

Phrasing – 7 points

Ensemble exhibits appropriate phrasing ​(entrances, cutoffs, demonstration of musical line, word and syllabic stress)​ consistently throughout the show, with attention to maintaining breath support.

Style/Interpretation – 7 points

Ensemble sings selections with appropriate style (tone, diction, character) that is uniform and consistent throughout the show.

Projection – 5 points

Elements of phrasing, sensitivity, and nuance are present

Rhythmic Accuracy – 5 points

Ensemble sings together with rhythmic accuracy, in time with the accompaniment, throughout the show, without dragging or rushing the beat.

Visual Performance

Execution of Choreography – 10 points

Choreography is executed with synchronicity consistently throughout the show. Movements have a defined starting and stopping point.

Facial Communication – 10 points

All members of the ensemble perform with facial expressions that are appropriate for the stye and song selections/ theme of the show consistently throughout the show.

Intensity – 7 points

Ensemble dances with appropriate energy level and exhibits strength of movement throughout the show.

Staging/Transitions – 7 points

Transitions and staging (timing between songs, blockings, entering and exiting the stage) throughout the show are well-planned and well-executed. Performers remain in character through transitions.

Stage Conduct/Professionalism – 5 points

All members of the ensemble exhibit appropriate behavior entering and exiting the stage, and while the performance is continuing. Performers remain in character, acting and reacting to things that occur on stage (planned and unplanned) in an appropriate manner.

Show Design

Overall Effect – 10 points

Overall impression of the show is positive. Show displays superior attention to detail, creativity, and musicality.

Accompaniment Balance and Execution – 7 points

Live accompaniment is well executed and performed in balance with the ensemble throughout the show and contributes to the show’s design and overall tuning. Recorded accompaniment cannot receive a superior rating (maximum 5 points).

By Raw Scores, the captions are weighted as 57% Vocals (74 points), 30% Choreography (39 points), and Overall Effect 13% (17 points). The grand total for all captions is 130 points. The proportions cannot be mathematically manipulated.
